Title:
EU Arrest Rights

Of interest to:
All Ireland Provinces

Script details:
New laws are to come into effect which will oblige police forces across the EU to inform an arrested suspect of his/her rights. That means an Irish person arrested in Sweden, Bulgaria or Spain for example will be informed of their rights prior to a possible prosecution. The measures will take about two years to come into effect across the European Union. Ruth Deasy of the EU Office in Dublin says this development will clear up any uncertainty over arrest procedures.
